Welcome to the Institute of IT Professionals
On 1st July 2012 the NZ Computer Society became the Institute of IT Professionals.
With a 52-year history and thousands of members, the Institute is the largest and oldest IT organisation in New Zealand and the leading body for IT professionals.
What does IITP do?
The Institute is the professional body of the IT Industry and represents thousands of IT professionals across New Zealand.
IITP is a non-profit incorporated society - we are owned by our members and run by IT professionals. We are completely independent but work closely Government, industry, academia and with kindred bodies in 54 other countries collectively representing over a million IT professionals worldwide.
Some of the Institute's activities include:
- Setting professional requirements for members, such as adherence to a Code of Conduct, ensuring that IITP members can be trusted by the public
- Running more than 200 presentations, events, courses and workshops for members throughout New Zealand every year
- Operating and overseeing IT Certified Professional (ITCP), the independent self-regulated accreditation of IT Professionals in New Zealand
- Being the voice of the IT Profession providing a credible voice to Government, industry and the public on the issues that matter
- Being heavily involved in Standards and Practice activities, working closely with Standards New Zealand and other bodies
- Governing and operating the NZ Cloud Computing Code of Practice (CloudCode), the IT Code of Practice and the IITP Code of Professional Conduct
- Evangelising IT to the next generation through projects such the Institute's ICT-Connect In-school Programme
- Providing dozens of low-cost courses and training programmes for IT Professionals across New Zealand
- Establishing student chapters and helping those studying connect with the industry before graduation
- Operating great career development initiatives for members such as a nationwide Mentoring Programme
- Being part of an International community of IT professionals that connects our members to over a million others around the world
